The full sleeves serve various purposes apart from protecting you from the heat. It is modest, as in you’d have no problem entering religious places or go exploring. Although a point to note is that temples usually require clothing that covers the shoulders, arms, and knees.

Also, remember that Jain temples do not allow wearing leather items of clothing as well. However, do not pack more than 5 sets of clothing. Indian clothing is colorful and affordable so it’d always serve in your interest to buy some at the nearby market or mall. And depending on the weather, pack a light cardigan as well.

They can be used as a head veil to cover your head while entering temples as a sign of respect, and when you’re traveling in an auto-rickshaw (tuk-tuk), you can drape it over your face and mouth to protect yourself from heat and smoke.

Scarves can also serve as a wrap over your shoulders for days when you feel chilly in planes after booking your air flights tickets or when you prefer the modest clothing.

You’ll be doing a lot of walking when you’re in India, sometimes with all your luggage. Footwear is one detail that cannot be compromised on. Comfy sports shoes or sneakers are the best when it comes to walking. You’ll also need closed-toe flats for regular exploring as it is the best when you’re walking long distances. Ensure that these have sturdy soles as you may be encountering rocky paths. Flip flops are ideal for wearing when you’re in the hotel and to the beaches if you’re visiting any.

Do remember that when you’re visiting temples, it is best to wear flip-flops as you’ll be taking it off before entering the temples.

This goes without saying that it is a must-have. Make a small separate bag for electronics to be carried in your luggage or carry-on as they can be easily accessible when you need it. Pack the essentials such as a portable charger, plug adapter, phone charging cord, and extra camera batteries.

On the point of heat being unforgiving, the sun also shines hard on your skin. Protect yourself with a good amount of sunscreen to counter-effect the ultra violet rays. Look for a sunscreen that is over SPF30 at least, and protects you from both UVA and UVB rays when you’re out and about.

Water bottle comes in handy as you don’t always want to be spending on buying a water bottle. Carry your own bottle and fill it up in places with clean drinking water. If you have a guide, they will tell you the places when you ask them or if you’re traveling by yourself, ask the local shopkeepers.
