The 53rd International Film Festival of India is back in Goa!

Celebrate the joy of cinema in the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India. The 8 days long festival will be held in Goa from 20th November to 28th November 2022. The IFFI is back after 3 years of hybrid screening (pandemic restrictions) and is currently held annually in Goa. Canadian tourists can enjoy massive discounts on flight tickets from Canada to Goa with Tripbeam Canada and witness the cinematic carnival with full gusto!

The first edition of IFFI was held in New Delhi by the Government of India in 1952 and showcased 40 features and 100 short films. Today, it has become the biggest film festival in Asia showcasing exceptional films made by both debutant directors and acclaimed directors.  The festival is organized jointly by the State Government of Goa and the Directorate of Film Festivals (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting).

In the fifth edition of the festival, which was held in 1975, a permanent insignia was adopted by organizers- the picture of a Peacock (India’s national bird). The organizers also adopted a motto from the Vedas- ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which translates to ‘The whole world is a family’. The 8 days long carnival pays tribute to film art and presents a common platform for the world cinema to showcase outstanding films. The vintage festival contributes to international filmmaking by showing works of filmmakers from different countries and their distinct social, cultural, and political contexts.

The International Film Festival of India shows a fascinating mix of contemporary and classic films from around the world and warmly welcomes international filmmakers, critics, academics, technicians, actors, and moviegoers on one platform. The art of filmmaking is celebrated through different activities like movie screenings, discussions, master classes, seminars, and so on.

This year IFFI will commemorate 75 years of independence, Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, and feature ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’. A jury of respected film personalities will shortlist 75 creative minds from India. The festival also features IFFI Silver Peacock awards in multiple categories- actor (female), actor (male), director, debut director, second best film, special jury awards, Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award, Indian Film Personality of the Year Award, and ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal.

In the last 3 years, limited people were allowed to attend the screenings due to pandemic restrictions. This year will see no such restrictions. The opening and closing ceremonies of the festival  are held at  Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Taleigao. Book last-minute discounted flight tickets from Canada to Goa on Tripbeam Canada & witness the cinematic bonanza in November 2022.

The festival is attended by ardent cinephiles and casual cinemagoers alike. Registrations are open and attendees can book tickets online. Passengers from Canada can check out Canada to India travel offers online and make a last-minute booking to Goa.

Celebrities like Amitabh Bachan, Waheeda Rehman, and Rajnikanth have graced the festival time and again, bringing fanfare and esteem to the wonderful festival that recognizes the spirit of universal brotherhood in the art of filmmaking!
