Planning to travel by IndiGo? Here’s the guide you need to refer to before packing your bags.

Ever faced a situation where you’ve brought airline tickets to your destination after browsing through the best flight offers? Packed all your suitcases, ready to fly, when you’re told at the airport that your baggage is too much and you have to pay extra? Doesn’t that put a damper on your mood? To avoid that, we present you with the knowledge of baggage allowance limits in IndiGo Airlines so you can be prepared when you’re flying in IndiGo. Here it is.

How much free baggage is allowed to be carried?

Domestic flights

 

15 kg per person (only 1 piece). For Double or Multi Seat bookings, extra 10 kg is allowed. Additional charges may apply.

*For flights under Vande Bharat Mission, the baggage allowance will 25 kg (check- in baggage) +7 kg (hand baggage).

Additionally to the one piece of hand baggage permitted as mentioned above, IndiGo airlines permit one additional personal article like ladies’ purse or a bag containing laptop, weighing not more than 3 kg. However, items deemed by them of an offensive nature will not be allowed on board.

Passengers are allowed to carry liquids, gels & aerosols in their hand bag, subject to the prevalent applicable local laws and regulations. It has to undergo screening and security checks, and allowed on board, provided they meet the following restrictions:

  • Any liquid in a clear container with a maximum volume of 100 ml.
  • All liquids in clear containers meeting the above condition must comfortably fit into a transparent, reseal- able 1 liter plastic bag.

If you want to carry on an oversized item on board that isn’t permissible in the limits set above, but will fit safely in a seat, the airline may allow you to book an additional seat on the flight at its discretion (subject to availability of seats & applicable fares). To avail this service, passengers may call their customer care number to arrange for booking such a seat. Do remember that it is not part of their online reservation. Also, the staff may refuse to carry any item or baggage, due to excess size or otherwise, if they deem it a safety hazard.

Infant Baggage Allowance

  • For domestic travel, one hand bag up to 7 kg and 115 cm (L+W+H), shall be allowed per passenger as their carryon. There is no special allowance for checked- in baggage.
  • For international travel, one hand bag up to 7 kg and 115 cm (L+W+H), shall be allowed per passenger as their carryon. There is no special allowance for checked- in baggage.

One stroller or baby pram per infant is allowed without any charge for both instances.

Baggage Allowance for International Connecting Flights

For IndiGo Domestic Sector connecting to/ from IndiGo international sector:

Free baggage allowance for international sector will be applicable.

For IndiGo Domestic Sector connecting to another airline to/ from an international destination:

Only one piece of luggage is allowed per person, which should not be more than 15 kg. For excess baggage, additional charges will apply.

What if you exceed your free baggage weight allowance?

Passengers carrying more than the allowed limit of baggage will be charged as follows:

  • Domestic Travel: Per additional kg, Rs. 500 is charged.
  • International Travel: Per additional kg, Rs. 525 is charged (or as per base currency of reservation).

Can you check- in for an onward flight at the point of departure, and reclaim your checked in baggage at the end of the entire journey, in case of connecting flights made by you in 2 different PNR?

No, IndiGo does not offer this service as of yet. You need to collect your luggage from the conveyor belt after the arrival of your first flight, and check in for your connecting flight again.

But in cases where it offers domestic connection in a single PNR, only then can a ‘through check- in’ facility can be availed by the passengers at the departure airport.

N.B.: The ‘through check in’ facility is not available for international connecting flights, even though the connection is made in a single PNR. You need to collect your luggage from the conveyor belt after the arrival of your first flight, and check in for your connecting flight again.

Is the carriage of alcoholic beverages permitted?

Yes, passengers may carry up to 5 liters of alcoholic beverages as part of their checked- in luggage, provided it meets the conditions given below:

  • The alcoholic beverage should be in retail packaging and packed properly (to prevent leakage/ damage).
  • The alcohol content in the beverage should not be more than 70%.
